Is the Recession really over?

“They” say the recession is over. “They” say thousands of new jobs have been created this month! Personally, I haven’t seen evidence of this yet. My daughter has been out of work for over a year and a half. She was one of several hundred who were laid off with promises of a call back later. She was never rehired.

She began working for a temp job placement agency. She would report each morning and sit in a room full of people all hoping to be sent out for work for that day. She managed to get work at least once a week.  She recently acquired a part-time job which has helped to cut the worry a little. She is still trying to find work in her chosen field as a lab technician. She has an Associate Degree in Medical Lab Technology and another Associate Degree in Biology.

A local meat processing plant advertised for someone to work in their microbiology lab…right up her alley! Her interview and tour was quite favorable, but they told her that of the 12 applicants, several had Masters degrees. The fact that several people with a Master’s degree were vying for a $13.90 an hour job tells me that the job market is still in trouble. Where are those newly created jobs? Perhaps “they” don’t know everything after all.
