As a child, I was a voracious reader of comic books. My favorite was Superman. I bought them every time they came out with a new edition. I added SuperGirl, Wonder Woman, and Batman. My father was sure I was wasting my time reading them and becoming emotionally stilted and learning nothing. If I had saved those comics from 50 years ago, I’d be rich today. But I think I learned that good always triumphs over evil and that the strong should always help and protect the weak. Maybe a little naive in today’s world, but good qualities to believe in.
I was browsing Netflix looking for a movie to watch. I was looking for Iron Man II but looked up Superman movies first. I found an animated film called Superman/Batman: Apocalypse. I thought I probably would get bored with an animated cartoon-like film but found myself drawn into it. It was just like reading my comics as a child. There was Superman and Batman and Wonder Woman fighting together against the “Darkside”. What else could you want? I was totally enthralled and thoroughly relished the story. I enjoyed the action and the short visit to the love of my childhood. We should all get to do that once in a while.
