Hoarders Among Us; Understanding Hoarding Disorder, Illness, Help – AARP Bulletin. We’ve all watched the commercials for the show, and some have watched religiously. I’ve always said we were “pack rats” but this seems to be a psychological illness that far surpasses such an innocuous title. It is worth reading about. It is severe and difficult to treat and difficult to cure. If you catch yourself hanging on to too many old things, and never being able to throw anything away, maybe it is time to look at your situation. Get rid of some of your clutter. Give something away to the Goodwill, or to another charity. Or give some old but good clothes to a women’s shelter. Just don’t let your cherished “things” take over your life.
