Long-term unemployed face stigmas in job search – USATODAY.com.

This one caught my eye since my daughter was laid off from Owens/Corning 2 years ago and when they recalled people, she wasn’t one that was called back. So she played the game…draw unemployment while waiting, look for work, watch bills start to accumulate since money was now less than before, find jobs for less than unemployment benefits, and when it ran out settled for a part-time job at minimum wage…the only job she was offered. She has applied for jobs in her field, with hundreds of applicants, even with excellent interviews, there were just too many people looking for work. It is a vicious cycle for sure. Your self-esteem takes a blow…”Why won’t they hire me? They acted like I was just what they were looking for?” “How am I going to pay my bills?” “Why can’t I just find a good job!” This article makes it sound like you are penalized if you have been out of work for a while. Well…wake up…a lot of people in our country have been and still are unemployed!
